Duminda Sanjeewa is a Sri Lankan film director and cinematographer with over two decades of experience in feature films, advertising, music videos, and international productions. He currently works at Pearl Island Films Pvt Ltd, alongside his own company and as a freelance collaborator with production houses locally and internationally.
Born in 1984 in Colombo, Duminda entered the industry in 2005 as an Animation and VFX artist, later working as a VFX Compositor at Trikone Art Center and Sky Entertainers. In 2010, he transitioned into directing, helming his first TV commercial for HNB Assurance. the campaign’s featured product won the SLIM Brand Excellence Award that year.
During his tenure at Sky Entertainers (2008–2018), he directed for major brands including Nestlé, Unilever, and Sri Lanka Tourism, establishing himself as a leading creative voice in Sri Lankan advertising. His debut feature film, Withered Leaf (2017), brought him international acclaim earning a semi-finalist place at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, nominations for Best Debut Film at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival and the Jaffna International Cinema Festival, and official selections at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne and other prestigious festivals worldwide. His music video work has also been recognised nationally, with a nomination for Best Music Video Director at the State Music Awards Sri Lanka for “Obe Hada” by Chathurika Githalie, and a win for Best Patriotic Music Video at the Derana Music Video Awards.
He has additionally directed music videos for international artists across the United States, Europe, and Australia.
